About the Artist

Donna Gibbs-Williams

I’ve been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was captivated by the magical potential of those big tins of children’s watercolours, and as a teenager, I was rarely seen without a sketchpad in hand. Creating has always felt like second nature — a quiet, joyful part of who I am.

Although I haven’t followed a formal path through art school, I’ve spent years immersed in the world of painting: reading, observing, and learning from artists I admire. I don’t think of myself as “self-taught” — more as someone constantly studying, exploring, and refining.

Today, I work primarily in oils and pastels from my small home studio. I love pastels for their immediacy — they offer such vibrant colour and a wonderfully direct way of working. Oils, on the other hand, invite a slower, more meditative process. I find both media endlessly rewarding in different ways.

My paintings are inspired by the quiet beauty of everyday life. I’m drawn to landscapes for their sense of space and stillness — nature’s vastness always humbles and uplifts me. Still life subjects, in contrast, feel more intimate and reflective. They’re a chance to pause and celebrate simple things: a piece of fruit in morning light, or a few wild daisies in a vintage glass bottle — like the ones that bloom just outside my front door.

Collectors often tell me that my work brings a sense of calm and gentle joy into their homes. That’s exactly what I hope for — that my paintings might offer a small daily moment of stillness, colour, and beauty.

At the moment, I sell original pieces and am working towards offering fine art prints soon. While I’m not currently taking commissions, it’s something I may explore in the future.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you find something here that speaks to you.
